Shelley Lake Park
Shelley Lake Park was established in the year, 1972, and it covers a total area of 144.8 acres. The park offers a relaxing break from the hustle and bustle of the city. It surrounds a small lake and has around 2 miles of paved, picturesque greenway trails around the lake. The exact location of the park is 1400 W Millbrook Rd, Raleigh, NC 27612. The 2.08-mile trail is particularly popular with dog walkers, joggers, and mothers pushing strollers. The trail is completely paved; hence, there are no tricky spots to maneuver the stroller around. We also love the fact that much of the greenway is shaded; the shaded areas truly provide a welcoming respite from the sweltering heat. The area near the bridge at the beginning of the trail is a popular spot and a crowd favorite. You will see many children and families excited to catch a glimpse of the ducks and geese in that spot. If we are to be honest, many families only get this far before or after a visit to the playground. You should know that there are a few steep hills on the trail which can prove to be quite tricky, especially if your kid brings a bike. We are big fans of the workout stations placed strategically along the trail. There are benches everywhere, along the trail as well. Therefore, you won´t have to worry about locating resting places should you find the need to take a breather.
There´s something for everyone
There is also a playground located nearby the trail and it boasts of two sections-one for the infants and toddlers and the other for older kids. And, since the surface is filled with sand, you should encourage your young ones to bring sand toys with them. On the downside, you will be taking home sand or mulch in your child´s shoes. We like the fact that there are shaded picnic tables installed to the side of the playground, making it a desirable spot for a snacking or lunching. The presence of outdoor basketball courts also adds to the charms of the park. You will also find the Sertoma Arts Center in the park. The center regularly offers workshops and classes in drawing, painting, pottery, photography, performing arts and more. They offer programs for everyone from infants to teens to adults; the programs include everything from Mommy and Me classes to advanced cartooning for children aged 10 to 15. The center has also started offering programs for preschoolers. More parks: Blue Jay Point County Park
